What is faith?

Faith is a word we hear so often, but what is faith really?

The Bible says in Hebrews 1:11 that “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.”

Simply put, faith is trusting in God’s plan and believing His word is true, even when you can’t see it. Well, especially when you can’t see it…

It’s trusting God’s heart, even when you can’t see His hand.

Faith is a Force

Faith is the force by which so many people in the Bible received miracles, healing, and deliverance, in the most impossible circumstances.

It was faith in God that allowed Moses to go up against Pharaoh and lead God’s people into deliverance.

It was faith in God that gave David the boldness to go up against Goliath by himself.

And it was faith in God that brought healing and wholeness to the woman who suffered for 12 years with incurable bleeding (Luke 8:43–48).

May I encourage you with this?

Whatever the impossible situation you’re facing, know that God is your healer, deliverer, and way maker.

And there’s no situation that’s too big for Him.

Why have faith in God?

I don’t know about you, but for me it feels much easier to believe that God loves me and is working things out for me, when things are going good in my life.

However, that becomes a lot more challenging during life’s hard times.

But the truth is that God is always good. Always.

He’s constant, unchanging, and reliable.

His love for us is eternal and nothing can ever separate you from His love (Romans 8:38).

He promises to be with you and help you in both the good and bad times.

Faith Makes Way for Victory

I encourage you to remember this when you’re going through a hard time…

Every Goliath you face, is an opportunity for you to experience the victory of God through Christ, in your life.

God never promised us that we wouldn’t have hard times.

In fact, He tells us flat out that we will face hardships in this life. However, He also promises that He will deliver us out of them all (Psalm 34:19).

That’s definitely something to rejoice about!

How to have faith in hard times

Ready for more good news?

Faith is a gift. The Bible tells us that God has given every man the perfect measure of faith (Romans 12:3).

Faith is not something you have to muster up on your own. Phew…that takes some of the pressure off, right?!

You can think of faith like a seed.

God’s given us the seed, but we’re responsible for watering that seed so that it grows.

The Bible tells us that faith comes by hearing His word (Romans 10:17).

3 Ways to Build Faith

So to build faith in hard times, here are 3 simple things I encourage you to do:

  1. Listen to sermons daily that encourage you and feed your spirit.
  2. Try to avoid meditating on your difficult circumstance. Take your attention off the rising pile of bills, the negative medical report, or the pain in your body. Try redirecting your focus by finding bible verses that speak to your situation and focus on those.
  3. When you’re tempted to talk about the problem, challenge yourself to speak the word of God.

As you stay in His presence, and meditate on His word, you’ll find your faith growing.

You’ll move from just knowing about God’s promises, to actually believing that they’re true for you.

His Word will get down in your spirit and it’ll help you move through even the hardest times.

How to Use the Bible Verses About Faith in Hard Times

I’ve found that meditating on the Word of God is one of the most important things I can do when i’m going through a hard time.

This is something I’m practicing right now.

At the time of writing this, I’m pregnant again after having suffered a miscarriage earlier this year. I was in my 2nd trimester and losing my baby was devastating.

Being pregnant again is an answered prayer. It’s a blessing.

But it also brought up a lot of fear for me.

So in addition to my daily devotions, I’m reading this book as a way to help me build my faith. (Side note: If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend checking it out. It’s simple, but powerful and offers the encouragement your soul needs.)

I don’t want to have a fear filled pregnancy.

I don’t want to be overwhelmed by all the specialist visits and the medical tests I have to undergo this time around.

So instead of focusing on how scary this can feel (I’m only 3 days away from when I had a miscarriage in my last pregnancy), I’m putting my attention on God.

He’s my Promise Keeper and my Helper.

Sis, He’s your Promise Keeper. And your helper.

Consistently listening to and meditating on relevant scriptures helps strengthen my faith so that I can move forward.

I pray these quotes, songs, and Bible Verses about faith in hard times will help you.

w/ light and love,
