Prayer Themes:

Each of these prayers have different themes and topics you can expand on as you pray for your marriage.

I believe there’s power in praying scripture for your husband.

The 3 big themes in this prayer for your husband are:

#1. Praying for Peace

All of us, including our husbands have to deal with the issues of life.

If we’re not careful, the cares of this world can easily make us feel overwhelmed and stressed out.

Stress can cause physical, emotional, and mental health issues. It can lead to poor decision making and affect the way we interact with each other.

That’s why praying for the peace of God is so important.

Many men have a habit of trying to fix everything themselves and carrying their burdens alone. Your husband wasn’t meant to do that.

Pray for him so that he’s able to navigate life’s issues with a peace that surpasses all understanding.

Philippians 4:6-7 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (NIV)

#2. Praying for Wisdom

The wisdom of God is worth more than all worldly knowledge combined.

It’s what enables us to make decisions with supernatural insight.

As God leads your husband in His wisdom, your husband will be able to make the right decisions for your marriage and for your family.

The wisdom of God will cause your husband to behave in a way that strengthens, blesses, and supports your marriage.

James 3:17 – But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. (NIV)

#3. Praying for Spiritual Growth

Spiritual growth is about learning how to become more and more like Christ.

Imagine if your husband possessed the very nature and qualities of Christ himself.

What impact would that have on your marriage?

Of course, spiritual growth is something each of us should be focused on.

As you pray that your husband’s desire for and pursuit of Christ deepens, you can do so with confidence that as he spends more time in the presence of God, his nature will begin to reflect God’s character more and more.

Ephesians 4:15 – Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

Prayer for a Wife (To Pray over herself)

Here’s a powerful morning prayer for a wife to pray over herself:

“Lord, help me to be a better wife, partner, & friend to my husband.

Help me to walk in love even when we disagree.

Help me to forgive him quickly when I feel offended or hurt.

Remind me to encourage him, to use my words to build him up, & never to tear him down.

Lord, help me to focus more on what he does right and less on what he does wrong.

Remind me that You are always a safe place where I can bring every issue. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Prayer Themes:

This morning prayer for wives has some powerful themes in it as well.

The 3 big themes in this prayer for your yourself are:

#1. Praying about walking in Love

God is love.

When we ask God to help us walk in love with our husband, we’re asking Him to help us to treat our husband the way He treats us.

1 Corinthians 16:14 – And do everything with love. (NLT)

#2. Praying about being quick to forgive

Walking in love can be hard to do especially after we’ve been offended, betrayed, or hurt.

God knows this and yet the instruction is always the same, forgive.

Forgiveness is key for walking in the love of God.

And it’s not always easy, but the benefits far outweigh the difficulty.

And you don’t have to do it on your own. As you spend time in God’s presence and release your hurt to Him, He will help you to forgive.

Colossians 3:13 – Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. (NLT)

#3. Praying about trusting God with everything

As wives and mommas, we take on so much.

Sometimes the emotional and mental weight of what’s happening in our marriage can feel overwhelming.

Whether you’re feeling like your needs aren’t being met, you and your husband have grown apart, or you’re dealing with another issue, remember this… God cares about you and for you.

He is our safety net. He’s the One we can run to and spill our hearts to.

He will be there for you.

So take the issues of your marriage, including the ones you can’t share with your husband, and give them to your loving Heavenly Father.

Psalm 55:22 – Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. (NLT)

Prayer for Husband and Wife Together

Here is a marriage prayer for couples to pray over themselves:

“Lord, please help us to keep you at the center of our marriage daily.

Help us to continuously walk in love, peace, and unity.

In the toughest moments, remind us to run to you.

With all the busyness life brings, helps us to always prioritize our marriage.

Heal the areas of brokenness, restore the areas where trust has been lost, and help us to move forward together in your grace.

In every season of life help us to grow together in you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Prayer Themes:

This prayer for husbands and wives brings it all together with themes that are key for a strong marriage.

The 3 big themes in this marriage prayer are:

#1. Praying about Surrendering

Marriage can be challenging.

It’s no surprise that 50% of marriages in the US end in divorce.

However, we have something the world doesn’t have – the help of the Holy Spirit.

God created marriage and He’s given us His spirit to help us walk out His plan for our marriage.

As you pray, remember that it’s not just you and your husband.

God is right there in the middle.

He’s there to help you, lead you, and strengthen your union.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 – A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.(NLT)

#2. Praying for Unity

God’s design for marriage is that a husband and wife would become one.

Bringing 2 completely different individuals together and asking them become one is not easy.

Fortunately, God doesn’t expect us to do it on our own.

He’s here to help you and your husband live a peaceful and loving life in unity with one another.

As you pray for your marriage, remember that it’s not just about you, or about your husband.

It’s God’s desire that you learn how to operate in unity with each other.

Genesis 2:24 – This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. (NLT)

#3. Praying for Restoration

They say “time heals all.”

However, we both know that that’s not always true.

Some wounds run deep and the hurt we’ve experienced makes us wonder if our marriage can ever be saved.

The good news is that with God all things are possible.

He’s able to restore and heal the areas of brokenness in you and your husband.

As you pray for your marriage, remember that even the most hopeless situation can turn around in the presence of Almighty God.

Psalm 34:17 – The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. (NLT)

Your husband will appreciate these Marriage Prayers

I posted these morning marriage prayers on Pinterest, and I think your husband may feel just like Scott here…

Future Husband's response to Marriage Prayers posted on Pinterest @thequeenlife

Here’s why I think your hubby will appreciate these… because they’re primarily about him and for him.

It’s so easy in the busyness of life to get caught up in what we need from our spouses, but today we’re focusing on being better spouses to our husbands.

Now, before you hit the back button, just hear me out.

By no means am I saying that your needs aren’t important, because they 100% are.

But something beautiful happens when we shift our focus from ourselves.

As you pray for your husband and for your marriage, you can trust God to meet your needs as well.

The Power of Prayer

As a wife, you know that marriage ain’t always easy.

Am i right?

You and your hubby face your fair share of challenges individually and as a unit.

And for even the strongest marriages, there are difficult things you’ll have to navigate.

God being awesome and wonderful in His foresight knew that, and planned ahead.

He’s good like that!

Prayer is a gift from God and it’s one of the ways we invite Him into our marriage to help strengthen it, heal it, and help it to flourish.

Challenge Yourself to Pray Daily

We’ll get to the prayers in a sec, but if you’re finding yourself in a place where you’re not praying for your marriage regularly (or maybe not spending time with God regularly), then this is a gentle reminder for you.

I know life can get busy, and some things have to take the back burner.

But trust me, you don’t want your prayer life to be one of those things.

Prayer is one of the most powerful and impactful things we can ever do.

It can make all the difference between you staying where you are and living the awesome life God has for you.

1 John 5:14 (ESV) says, “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.” (View this scripture on BibleStudyTools.com)

And we know that a Godly marriage is His will.

So if you haven’t yet, schedule time to spend time with Him daily however you can.

What does your marriage need?

Each of these marriage prayers are awesome and powerful, but they’re also general.

So while this is a great place to start, I challenge you to get more specific based on what you and your spouse need.

One way to do this is to go before the Lord during your devotional time. Take time to write out what’s really on your heart as it relates to your marriage.

Here are some scriptures on marriage that may be really helpful for you:

  • Ecclesiastes 4:9: “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?”
  • Genesis 2:24: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
  • 1 Corinthians 13:4-5: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”

Remember, God created marriage, and He wants your marriage to be successful.

One of the ways to ensure that you have a strong, fruitful, and successful marriage is by making prayer a part of your daily life.
