Now that we’ve got the basics covered, let’s get down to business.
#1: Indoor Picnic
Coins Required
It’s time to turn down the lights and light a few candles. Get ready for one of the most romantic evenings at home that you’ve had in a while.
P.S.You’ll definitely want to get the kiddos to bed early, or drop them off with the in-laws before you get this started
Why you’ll love it:
- You can create a very private and intimate experience from the comfort of your own house
- Most of what you need is already at home
- It’s the perfect setting for an intimate and memorable evening together.
How to do it:
- The location. Choose the perfect spot in your house to pull it off. (Make sure you have enough space to lay out a picnic blanket.
- The layout. Decide on the layout (click the image above for more Pinterest inspiration).
- The food. Decide what’s on the menu. (Pro Tip: If cooking isn’t your forte, you can always order food from your boo’s favorite restaurant. Hubby and I will be ordering from Hello Fresh and cooking a meal together.
- The pizaz. Choose at least one special thing you can add or do that will make your honey feel special. I love dancing for my husband, so I’ll end the evening with that.
- The supplies. Figure out what you need and order it ASAP (Amazon Prime all day, er’day).
- The timing. Make sure you tell your boo what time to be home (be sure to give yourself enough time to get everything set up). If your husband will be home before you can things set up, have him wait in another room until you’re ready.
The Essentials:
Here are the must haves for the 1st of our Valentine’s Day Surprises.
- Dinner and Dessert
- A bottle of bubbly (Or beverage of choice)
- A picnic blanket
- Decor: Rose petals, mood lighting and music
Optional:
- Food Trays
- Picnic Basket
- Extra Pillows to sit on
❤️ How to Kick it up a Notch:
- If you want to wow your honey, consider hiring a personal chef for the evening. I did this for my husband’s 30th birthday and he loved it. I had a culinary school grad do it, so I didn’t pay top dollar, and the whole experience was amazing.
- Indulge in a night away from home. The change of scenery could be just the touch of excitement you and your hubby need. The best part is that you don’t have to travel far or spend a lot of money.
#2: Weekend Getaway
Why you’ll love it:
- Change of scenery without the enormous price tag.
- Feels like a mini-vacation
- Can be close which means it won’t disrupt your normal routine
How to do it:
- The destination. Check out Groupon and Living Social if you want to stay at a hotel. Or you can stay at an Air BnB.
- The itinerary. You don’t have to plan out the whole weekend, but you do want to have a couple of things planned. Here are some ideas.– It can be fun to explore through the eyes of a tourist. If you and your boo are into exploring check out City Tours. I’ve done a double decker bus tour in NY and much to my surprise, it was a ton of fun even though I’m from NY.– Make Dinner Reservations using Open Table– A fun activity you’ll both enjoy – Think couples massages, a cooking class, or a physical activity. Again, Groupon or Living Social to the rescue if you need some inspiration.
Essentials:
- Reservations at a nearby destination
- An itinerary or at least one planned activity you know your boo will like
Optional:
- Make it a Partial Surprise. Keep some of the activities you’ve planned a secret.
- Make it a Complete Surprise. To get the most out of this trip, consider making the whole thing a surprise. Don’t tell your honey you’ve planned it. Instead, do all the legwork, and let them come home to a packed bag. Obviously this requires some leg work. Make arrangements to cover any previous engagements they may have had planned. Although this option is more time intensive, it’s guaranteed to pay off big.
❤️❤️ Kick it up a notch: Wow your honey by reaching out to the hotel you’re staying at. Ask them to help you decorate the room in advance. Maybe a bottle of champagne on the table, flowers on the bed, etc. Trust me, the extra effort won’t go unnoticed. Or, if you can get the room a day early, go the day before and set the stage.
#3: AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE

Imagine the look on your hubby’s face when you surprise him with that thing he’s been dreaming about.
